A light-up electronic label delivers their sustainability message in a fun, hands-on interface.
An unusual and innovative packaging technology has been developed for a new fragrance. It’s designed to not only provide a fun, high-tech design element, but also to deliver a message about sustainability.
The appropriately named fragrance is CYBER Eau de Parfum, and it’s a product of Germany’s LOOK LABS. It’s a unisex fragrance, and it has an illuminated label that’s embedded with printed electronics. When a consumer presses the power button on the label, the name CYBER lights up in red and the universal recycling and earth symbols blink. This is designed to be a reminder to protect the planet and be conscious of sustainability. The packaging and label are sustainable, and the bottle is designed to be refilled.
The printed electronic label, which is self-powered and uses OLED (organic light emitting diode) technology, is good for 500 interactions. The battery and sensor are fully printed and, because it uses OLED, the company says it is completely disposable in the waste stream.
The fragrance’s Italian-designed bottle is made from ultra-light glass produced with an innovative forming technique. It is both refillable and completely recyclable, and the shape of the bottles is specifically created to minimize glass weight and external volume, making the packaging light and easy to transport.
