The overwhelming majority of young people says it’s worth the cost.
A new report was just released that indicates just how important eco-friendly packaging is becoming. The data indicates that not only is the demand for sustainable packaging continuing to grow, but also that a substantial portion of the population is even willing to pay more for it.
This study was outlined in a recent article on Flexible Packaging magazine’s site. In the survey of more that 15,000 consumers from across North America as well as South America and Europe, younger buyers in particular said they were committed to eco-friendly packaging. Of those aged 44 and under, 83 percent said they were willing to bear some of the cost of sustainable packaging by paying extra.
It’s particularly interesting that this demand for green packaging has remained high in spite of the economic challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Two-thirds of those surveyed said they think it is important that packages are recyclable, and 64 percent identified packaging that contains recycled content as a priority in their buying decisions. Fewer than one in three consumers deprioritized sustainable packaging due to COVID-19.
The study showed that consumers were aligned across all regions on identifying plastic as the most unsustainable packaging material. Respondents consistently associated plastic with undesirable attributes such as ocean pollution (63 percent), harmful (55 percent) and wasteful (36 percent).
It’s no surprise to us that sustainable packaging is a top priority for consumers, especially younger ones. At AMGRAPH, we’ve been leading the way when it comes to earth-friendly packaging, and we plan on staying at the forefront of new developments. It’s true that some options can add cost, but even if your consumers are willing to pick up some of that cost, we still think it’s important to be practical. Give us a call, and we’ll show you how to incorporate more sustainable packaging—with a reasonable investment.
